Three Delicious Vegan Barbecue Recipes for a Showstopping Summer Grill
It’s been a long and challenging winter for all of us, but summer is finally here and BBQ season is in full swing — what better way to celebrate than to throw a fully vegan barbecue party for your family and friends?
Whipping up a finger-licking BBQ spread for your non-vegan loved ones is one of the best ways to showcase all the goodness that a plant-based diet can offer.
But while you’ll find pages and pages of classic barbecue recipes featuring animal products, those following a vegan diet are often not as lucky when it comes to finding delicious and easy vegan barbecue recipes.
So, to make the job a whole lot easier and get you started on the grill much faster, we’ve rounded up three of the best vegan BBQ recipes to try out this summer, guaranteed to impress every guest!
Classic Avocado Kebab Wrap
If you’re looking for a filling main that won’t have you washing knives and forks all evening, look no further than a classic vegan kebab wrap.
While a pillowy flatbread and a tasty kebab-style vegan meat alternative make for the foundation of this absolute people-pleaser, the best part of putting a vegan kebab wrap together is that it can be endlessly customized to include all the veg and condiments you want!
Here’s what you’re going to need to prepare this standout vegan barbecue recipe:
- Three white or whole wheat wraps
- 450g of Classic, Tandoori, or Spicy vegan kebab strips
- One large head of butter or iceberg lettuce
- 100g of cherry tomatoes
- One large onion, sliced
- Two cloves of garlic, minced
- Two medium-sized ripe avocados
- Salt and pepper to taste
To prepare, start by making the avocado dressing: Using a fork to mash the avocados, add in salt, pepper, and the minced garlic to make a creamy sauce to set aside. Next, you’ll want to prepare your kebab strips on the grill, making sure to not leave the grill unattended as the vegan kebab pieces only need to be grilled for a couple of minutes on each side.
Chop up your lettuce, tomatoes, and onion and spread the smashed avocado dressing onto the wraps after heating them up quickly on the grate. Mix the kebab strips and veggies inside the wrap, roll tightly, and serve with a side salad and chips to surprise all your friends with just how delicious vegan kebabs can be!

Smoked Stuffed Bell Peppers
Stuffed bell peppers are a classic when it comes to smoked vegetable recipes, as the crisp sweetness of a fresh bell pepper pairs perfectly with the natural BBQ smokiness, and you can endlessly customize the stuffing to fit your preferences!
Here’s what you’re going to need:
- Five red and yellow bell peppers (with the inside flesh scooped out)
- One cup of cooked white rice
- One onion, diced
- Four cloves of garlic, minced
- Mixed Italian herbs
- Half a block of tempeh, crumbled
- Salt and pepper to taste
To prepare, start by gently sauteeing the onions, garlic, and crumbled tempeh in a pan with olive oil until translucent, adding a splash of soy sauce to season the tempeh.
Combine the cooked rice and stuffing together with the seasoning and fill the inside of your peppers up to the very top, using the top of the pepper as a natural lid.
Place the bell peppers directly on the grate and let them smoke at 150C for approximately one hour, so to retain the perfect crunch!
Grilled Mediterranean Artichoke
Artichokes are an underrated gem when it comes to grilling, but they can stand on their own as a filling and flavourful main dish as well as making for the perfect Italian-inspired side dish.
Here’s what you’re going to need:
- Four whole, fresh artichokes (cleaned of the outer leaves trimmed and sliced in half)
- One lemon, juiced
- Four garlic cloves, minced
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
After carefully cleaning the artichokes and cutting them in two, start steaming them on top of a pot of boiling water for approximately 20 minutes.
Mixing the minced garlic, salt, and pepper with plenty of olive oil and lemon juice to season, place the artichokes directly onto the grate, halves cut-side-down, and grill for up 10 minutes on each side. Serve with a slice of lemon and enjoy!
